Citizenship Approval for Make Up Artist from Iran

We received a citizenship approval for a make up artist from Iran. Congratulations to our client!

Our client attended her interview and received a request for evidence for her tax filings. The U.S. tax code is very confusing, and after consulting with her, we determined her taxes were very likely requested by the USCIS to see if she had paid income on some employment that she had held abroad over the 5 year period looked at for naturalization. Legal permanent residents and U.S. citizens are required to report income on their U.S. tax returns for income that they earn anywhere in the world, not just the United States. Thankfully, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services recognizes the complexities of filing taxes and does hold the failure to properly file an automatic bar to good moral character required for citizenship so long as the applicant can show that they corrected all inconsistencies and errors. In this case, we submitted amended tax returns along with additional evidence demonstrating how the she had believed in good faith that her prior filing was correct. The case was shortly thereafter.

I have over a decade of experience representing individuals seeking to obtain U.S. citizenship, both through naturalization applications as well as applications involving acquisition or derivation of citizenship through U.S. citizen parents.
